Travelling with Prachi and Himadri (Ghoomophiro.com)

Following on with Travelling Sam’s interview series, we have the pleasure of interviewing Prachi and Himadri from Ghoomophiro.

Hello Parchi and Himadri! Could you tell us all a little bit about yourself?

We are both avid travelers who have taken their interest in travel to a whole new level. Popularly known as #ghoomophirosisters, while Prachi captures our journeys in the form of words, for Himadri, it is with her camera. Prachi is also a debutant author whose first book on women entrepreneurs was launched in January 2016. Himadri is currently working with a media agency. We are the sisters behind Ghoomophiro blog, which has recently been featured in the list of top 10 travel informative blogs.

Where is home for you?

Home for us is where we get peace and inspiration.

Where in the world are you right now?

We are currently based out in Delhi.

How long have you been travelling?

It’s been over 8 years, we have been travelling and mostly backpacking.

A very tough question, but what is your favourite country?

India, it has all sorts of terrain. In fact, everything for everyone. If you are beach lover, you have beautiful Andamans, if you love mountains Himalayas calling you and if wildlife is what attracts you then Madhya Pradesh is the place you need to explore.

What was your least favourite place? Why?

Never came across anything like this. Simply find something or the other to inspire us.

What is the strangest journey that you have taken?

Our first ever trip as solo backpacker.

What has been the best experience that you have had whilst travelling?

It was our first trip together back in 2007, when Himadri was preparing for MBA., “I came home on Friday evening, and she told me, ‘Temperature in Delhi would be 0 degree on 1st Feb, what are we doing here?’” We exchanged glances and at that very moment they knew what they were upto.

We packed our bags in next 20 min, got down, picked an auto and reached ISBT Delhi Himachal stand. I looked for first bus moving and it headed to Shimla. This is exactly when we, the #ghoomophirosisters, started our travel tales. We reached around 5 AM in morning and instantly got surrounded by a mob of taxi driver and hotel agents. Once settled in a hotel room, we knew luck was on our side because there we experienced the first snowfall of our lives. Apparently, even for the people of Shimla, it was a great snowfall experience. That was indeed a memorable trip for us, since it taught us lot.

What is the scariest encounter that you have had whilst travelling?

We were going for our first scuba to Netrani islands and in the midst of Arabian Sea, fuel got over and our jetty stopped working. We were scared as there was no network and we were apparently stuck in the midst of ocean.

What is your number one ‘bucket list’ item that you haven’t yet done?

Hiking to Everest Base Camp and Mount Kailash.

Do you have a packing list? How much does your luggage weigh?

Indeed. We are light packers. Our packing list can be found on our blog.

What can you not leave home without?

Sunglasses

Can you recommend a book that’s great to read whilst on holiday?

Superwomen, as it is the collection of inspiring stories of women entrepreneurs.

Do you have a favourite app for travel?

Google Maps.

What is your best tip for anyone about to go travelling?

Don’t delay your travel for any excuse.

Where are you going to go to next?

Everest base Camp is our upcoming planned trip. Unplanned can be anything.

Thank you Prachi and Himadri, it’s great to hear about people’s experiences from all over the world, you can read more of Travelling Sam’s interviews here.
